This Project was one of the largest renovations undertaken by brownlowe. The sub frame and frame were built using standard brick veneer construction and roof trusses were used due to the large open areas. On the roof terracotta tiles were laid to match existing. The windows and doors were through Stegbar. They were constructed in cedar to match the existing home. In the original house, the smaller panels above the windows were irregular sizes. Therefore considerable time was spent in ensuring that the new windows were glazed in proportion to the existing. The exposed brickwork on the sills are second hand pressed red bricks. This was to match the existing, sourced from various second hand yards. |
The existing render was over 80 years old (never painted) and had therefore been weathered which had exposed the original shale aggregate. One of our biggest challenges was to match this surface. Several months and many experimental panels later, the final result was amazing. We sourced coloured sands and shale, from quarries and stone suppliers from all over Melbourne. Internally, we laid KD hardwood strip floor and the new doors and fixings were chosen to reflect the style of the existing home. For the cabinets, the client selected gloss vinyl panels and doors and natural stone finishes including limestone and Kashmir Gold granite for the kitchen and laundry. |
